Location: Seattle, WA
Service: Piñatas & Party Decorations
I met Maria last year since her daughter was in my kindergarten class. Her daughter and son are different ages but they share the SAME birthday! When the topic of their birthdays came up, Maria shared pictures of her piñata business and I was so amazed by how beautifully made her products are! Each are made with bright colors, lots of small details, and full of love.

What is your name and role at Piñatas Locas?
My name is Maria. I am the owner and I do everything - I sell and make everything.

What made you become interested in having a piñata and party decoration business?
I was interested in this business because in this area, there is no one else that can do the piñatas that I make now. In the store, you can find the regular ones, ones shaped like stars, but not the characters. So, one day, I was planning my kids' birthday and I was looking for piñatas. I didn't know how to make it but I learned how to make it by watching videos on YouTube. I tried so many times to make one and they were not that good but I learned.

My kids have the same birthday but we had to cancel the party [that year]. So I thought, "What if I put the piñatas on Facebook?" I was so surprised that I sold them right away. People started to call me and send me messages. They asked me to make different shapes and I said yes.

What is your favorite part of owning your business so far? What are the challenges?
My favorite part is that I can work here at home and watch my kids at the same time. The challenge is that sometimes it's hard to find time with my family because I can get so busy.

Every piñata is different from the other ones so I have to take time to figure out how to do each one. Sometimes it's difficult to find the right colors and materials so I have to call my friend and order tissue papers from Mexico.

Tell us about your products!
I make piñatas and other party decorations for birthday parties mostly. You can find a picture, ask for anything you want, and I can make the piñata look almost exactly the same. I will try to do my best.

What else would you like for people to know about you and/or your business?
I want other people to know that if they order something from me, I will always do my best. I will try to give something that they can be happy with.

You will need to order 6-8 weeks in advance. It takes me about a week to work on each one.
Thank you, Maria, for taking time out of your busy schedule to talk with me! If you are in need of piñatas and party decor, or know of someone who needs them, please message Maria for more information on her Facebook business page. She will get back to you as soon as she can!
